Readme file for Wear Text 1.08 ============================== Wear Text is a simple app for Wear OS devices to make a phone call or send a text or WhatsApp message by voice command. It's what Google Assistant should do, if it wasn't for a long-standing bug that Google hasn't fixed for many months. Installation instructions: Copy the file WearText.apk to your Android phone and install using any file manager. Install WearText_wear.apk to your watch using one of the methods described here: http://freepoc.org/wearos-apps/ Update 29 May 2021: Wear Text no longer requires accessibility permission on the watch. If you want to send WhatsApp messages using Wear Text then on your phone please make sure your watch is a trusted device for Smart Lock. Also, please give Wear Text accessibility access on your phone (please restart your phone afterwards). Note that once installed on your watch Wear Text is renamed to Auto Text - which is easier for voice recognition. Usage: Please follow the instructions in the phone app. Helpful notes (thanks to Ric for the suggestions!): 1. Your phone needs internet access to be able to parse the voice command on the watch (either wifi or mobile data). 2. You may find that voice recognition on your watch doesn't recognise your contact name. So for example, it might recognise 'Rick' instead of 'Ric'. In fact, my wife has an unusual name which isn't recognised. You can use a nickname or any other commonly-used word (in my case 'Wife'). Set the contact name in the WT phone app accordingly. Video: This video shows how to set up and use Wear Text: https://youtu.be/bKZe8QhitM4 Xiaomi phones: it seems that Google Smart Lock doesn't work for WearOS devices, only for MiBands. So Wear Text won't be able to wake up the phone to send WhatsApp messages or make phone calls :-( Enjoy using Wear Text! Malcolm Bryant & Freepoc malcolm@freepoc.org Last updated: 23 August 2021
